Evolution of a Snake: The Taylor Swift Fan Podcast

GET TICKETS TO SEE US ON TOUR NEXT WEEK: https://www.evolutionofasnake.com Welcome to 2019: Part 3, the latest installment of our in depth analysis of every year of Taylor Swift’s career. This is the one where the woman they thought they had cornered gets a white shirt, embroiders every album she's about to take back onto it, and walks onto the AMA stage in front of the entire industry. There will be a notes app letter. There will be a Billboard speech about toxic male privilege and private equity. There will be a re-recording announcement that makes two very rich, very powerful men realise they have made the most expensive mistake in music history. Scooter Braun will write an open letter asking for sympathy. She ends the year in the Maldives with someone who does not deserve a vacation. Enjoy! Learn more about your ad choices. GET TICKETS TO SEE US ON TOUR THIS SUMMER: https://www.evolutionofasnake.com In today’s episode, we delve into our findings from one of music’s biggest nights…or should we say…one of the influencer’s biggest nights: Coachella 2026. It was Sabrinachella and Addisonchella as far as we’re concerned, but we take a critical look at Justin Bieber and KATSEYE’s performances for a little extra sauce. Learn more about your ad choices. GET TICKETS TO SEE US ON TOUR THIS SUMMER: https://www.evolutionofasnake.com We’re rewinding to Taylor Swift's NYU Commencement Speech 2022 and reading it like a prophecy. At the time, it felt like a charming, self-aware victory lap. But in hindsight? It’s loaded with real easter eggs about everything that followed: the emotional architecture of Midnights, the meta-theatre of The Eras Tour, the unraveling of her long-term relationship with Joe Alwyn, and the chaotic re-entry of Matty Healy. We’re dissecting the language, the tone, the “mistakes” motif, the self-mythologizing — and asking: was Taylor already preparing us for the next era… or trying to convince herself of it? https://www.patreon.com/swiftologist Learn more about your ad choices. Before Bleachella, before 1989 won Album of the Year, before Snakegate, before the getaway car, before Reputation…there was merely the biggest pop star in the world fighting for her life trying to maintain control of a plane that was flying in a downward spiral. Her life was bigger than ever, and harder to manage than ever. She was on top of the world, and terrified of falling over the edge. In this chaos, she invited Vogue into her beautiful LA home, and answered 73 Questions. Come with us as we revisit and reflect on this happy, free, confused, and lonely time in Taylor’s life and career. In this week’s episode, we finally do what perhaps should have been done long ago: explain the bizarre, unholy, deeply unnecessary internal language of Evolution of a Snake. From heirloom turkey to bone collector, from “you’re an adult, you should know that” to “good luck with booking that stage you speak of,” we’re unpacking the phrases, references, recurring bits, and completely deranged lore that have somehow become part of the EOAS cinematic universe. Whether you are a seasoned nothing knower or a confused diva down, welcome. Inshallah. JOIN US ON PATREON: https://www.patreon.com/swiftologist In this episode of Evolution of a Snake, we’re brutally ranking Taylor Swift’s old music videos — from Debut all the way through Reputation — and revisiting the fairytales, the cheer captain era, the dramatic eyeliner, the chaotic pop pivot, and everything in between. We’re not just ranking based on nostalgia. We’re talking storytelling, visuals, cultural impact, rewatch value, and whether some of these videos actually aged well… or if they are very much a product of their time. Some of them are undeniable classics. Some of them sparked entire eras. And yes, a few of them might be more controversial than we remembered. Learn more about your ad choices. GET TICKETS TO SEE US LIVE IN AUSTRALIA THIS WEEKEND: https://www.evolutionofasnake.com Taylor Swift's songs about Scott Borchetta reveal something far deeper than a business dispute. They trace grief, betrayal, power, and eventual reclamation. In this episode of Sister Songs, we compare My Tears Ricochet, It’s Time To Go, and Father Figure to examine the emotional arc behind one of the most pivotal conflicts in Taylor Swift’s career: the master recordings sale and her relationship with Scott Borchetta. GET TICKETS TO THE SNERAS TOUR AUSTRALIA: https://www.evolutionofasnake.com Taylor Swift’s Tortured Poets Department might be her most narratively complete album… and yet it never received its final chapter. In this video, we imagine the era that never happened — the missing act of Tortured Poets. If Midnights had a spectacle and Folklore/Evermore had a world, then TTPD should have had a stage. So what would a Tortured Poets tour actually look like? We design the full concept from scratch — staging, visuals, symbolism, costumes, and narrative arc — and map the album onto a live theatrical structure that resolves its themes of performance, martyrdom, ego death, and public trial. GET TICKETS TO THE SNERAS TOUR IN AUSTRALIA: https://www.evolutionofasnake.com Welcome back to Taylor Talk. As the whole world knows...Taylor Swift is engaged to Travis Kelce. Therefore, in today's episode, we're speculating wildly (in good fun) about her hypothetical bachelorette party. What will the girl boss do? We imagine two scenarios: what should happen vs what probably will happen. Everything is on the table: guest list, silverware, lighting, venue, and the overall vibe. There are even Pinterest boards to discover. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

GET TIX TO SNERAS AUSTRALIA: https://www.evolutionofasnake.com Here we are again, reviewing music's biggest night. This was a year of middling fashions, great performances, and at least one shocking robbery. We're talking everything Sabrina Carpenter, Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber, Bad Bunny, Addison Rae, Katseye and so much more as we review the material from the red carpet, the stage, and beyond. In the latest and greatest episode of Phone a Snake, we open the lines to YOUR unpopular End of an Era opinions and promptly descend into chaos. We talk meth math, meta-performance delusions, Matty Healy signaling conspiracies, Showgirl truthers, and the increasing inability of fandom to distinguish subtext from canon. We unpack the docuseries as both emotional reset and expectation correction, debate whether Showgirl is Lover-coded or simply vibing, and grapple with what it means to put your hand-heart back up after months of discourse rot. GET TICKETS TO THE SNERAS TOUR IN AUSTRALIA: https://www.evolutionofasnake.com In our final recap of The End of an Era docuseries, we’re with Taylor Swift on the very last days of the Eras Tour—when the adrenaline fades, the muscle memory takes over, and the question shifts from how did we get here? to what happens after? We talk family, legacy, loss, Andrea as the quiet architect of everything, a crew reckoning with a once-in-a-lifetime job, and Taylor admitting she’s ready for it to be over even as the world struggles to let go. Plus: awkward early Life of a Showgirl footage, chaotic mashups, football brain, busted harmonies, and Gracie Abrams as the tour’s final emotional mirror. Learn more about your ad choices. GET TICKETS TO THE SNERAS TOUR IN AUSTRALIA: https://www.evolutionofasnake.com Welcome back to our recap of the most important docuseries in history. In today’s dispatch, we revisit episode 5: where The Eras Tour hits Toronto and suddenly everything turns toward family, legacy, and the people who make you who you are. Andrea draws aching parallels between Taylor and her late mother, while the crew reflects on their own losses, including a moving moment from Kamilah Marshall. Then the tone swerves into the painfully awkward origins of The Life of a Showgirl: early studio sessions, enthusiastic CANCELLED! recording footage...it's hard out here. Gracie Abrams drops by to talk about growing up idolizing Taylor, then joins her for a very… ambitious… mashup of “Us” and “Out of the Woods.” Enjoy! Learn more about your ad choices. GET TICKETS TO THE SNERAS TOUR IN AUSTRALIA: https://www.evolutionofasnake.com Welcome back to our recap of the most important docuseries in history. In today’s dispatch, we revisit episode 4: where Taylor somehow finds the time—mid-tour—to create and record The Tortured Poets Department, turning exhaustion into fuel and isolation into art. It is short and sweet, but it was everything. She opens up about meeting Travis Kelce and developing a very... earnest...passion for football, before roping her stage-husband-to-be into an Eras skit at the hallowed London show WE attended. We get a surprise crossover moment with Sabrina Carpenter with busted harmonies, and a moving reflection from dancer Whyley on identity, visibility, and what it meant to be handed “…Ready for It?” as a career-defining opportunity. The Eras Tour closes out its final U.S. stops in New Orleans and Indianapolis—loud, emotional, and teetering on the edge of something bigger. Enjoy! Learn more about your ad choice...

This week on Evolution of a Snake, we’re reopening Miss Americana and giving it the forensic rewatch it deserves before the End of an Era docuseries arrives to rewrite the narrative all over again. We dig into Lana Wilson’s direction, Taylor’s unusually heavy involvement in shaping the film, and the emotional architecture behind its most revealing moments—her struggles with body image and disordered eating, her anxieties about ageing and motherhood in a pop-star machine that demands perpetual youth, and the shaky, newly forming political voice she lets us witness in real time. Five years later, the documentary feels even more confessional and strangely prophetic; it tells us exactly who she was becoming long before the rest of the world caught up. We’re finally doing it: ranking Taylor Swift’s post–Big Machine albums, from Lover through Showgirl, using a semi-serious “scientific” system we built to avoid pitting Old Taylor against New Taylor. In this episode, we break down cohesion, execution, longevity, and overall Snakeology to figure out which version of independent-era Taylor is truly operating at her peak. The addition of The Life of a Showgirl complicates everything in ways we didn’t expect, and the final ranking surprised even us.
